Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Ana Brnabic stated on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, that revenues of EUR 4 million had been made from film companies shooting in Serbia in the previous three years and estimated that the result of Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic's visit to India would result in an expansion of the cooperation in the field.

She said for Radio-Television of Serbia that she expected that an increase in the number of Indian film companies shooting in Serbia would also lead to an increase in the number of tourists from that state.

Brnabic said that, according to the data from India, “which has a fast-growing middle class”, it was expected that around 50 million of its citizens would visit Europe in the next two years and that the expectations were that “at least a small portion will come to Serbia”.

According to her, the film industry and tourism were connected, as a large number of citizens of India watched movies shot in Serbia and wanted to see the country they had been filmed in.

The minister also believes that, in the era of modern technologies and various transportation options, the geographical distance between Serbia and India is not an obstacle to the development of tourism. She reminded that the decree by the Government of Serbia, envisioning the return of 20% of the investment to film companies shooting in Serbia, after all the liabilities have been repaid, had contributed to an increased number of foreign film companies working in Serbia.

– Thanks to this, Serbia had revenues of EUR 15 million in 2016 – said Ana Brnabic, who has great expectation regarding the cooperation in the field of modern technologies as well.

According to her, India is second only to the USA in the number of IT engineers and is a world giant who can help Serbia in that field to a great extent.
