– The purchase of land on the route through Novi Sad is a bit late. It’s the route from Miseluk, through Petrovaradin, to the Zezelj bridge. I expect that the procedure regarding urban planning solutions on the route will speed up and for the conceptual design to be prepared afterwards – he says.
As he adds, everything else regarding the project documentation is already prepared.
– It’s now up to the Government of Serbia and the Ministry of Construction and Transport to find a partner for the job in agreement with potential contractors, through a credit or a concession, in agreement with the Provincial Government – Mirovic emphasized, as reported by Novi Sad’s Dnevnik.
The Fruska Gora corridor has been made one of the priority routes of the Provincial Government due to its importance, and the estimated investment value is around EUR 400 million.
The corridor will stretch from the Kacka interchange on the Novi Sad-Zrenjanin road and cross the E-75 highway at the Minut gas station. The route further leads towards the Danube, across Fruska Gora, to the Belgrade-Zagreb highway. It will cross into Srem through the bridge to be built there and will further go from the church in Petrovaradin (Tekija) towards Bukovac at the foot of Fruska Gora through a 3,470 m tunnel.
The tunnel leads towards the interchange to Vrdnik and continues towards Ruma, where a bypass route is being built. The section is 37 m long and does not belong in the category of highways, but high speed routes instead, because it doesn’t have emergency lanes, even though it will have two times two lanes wide 3.5 meters each.
Mirovic says that those who criticize the project as economically unjustified haven’t made good calculations and that the job is cost-effective from the angle of calculations of potential investors in the construction of the road regarding the returns on the money invested.
– The job is cost-effective, as the tunnel entrance fees on both sides, along with new traffic being expected, will allow us to return the invested money in 25 to 30 years. A simple look at the Roads of Serbia website shows that there are 11 to 12 thousand vehicles a day on the route, of which 700 freight vehicles – Mirovic says.
As he says, compared to average prices in the region the fees for a tunnel of that size easily show that the job is cost-effective.
Igor Mirovic points out that another important project for Vojvodina is the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest railroad, which is being realized though the Government of Serbia.
– This might be the most important job in the modern history of Vojvodina, which I’m calling the “Railroad through Vojvodina”. By the way, I also gave the name of “Fruska Gora Corridor” to the corridor on the Novi Sad-Ruma route – Mirovic adds.
According to him, these are big projects and can’t be completed overnight. They require great preparations, bringing together urban planners, designers, using modern technologies…
– The railroad route, for example, requires the technology allowing for trains to run at 200 km/h, which no company in Serbia is fully capable of providing, so we will have to lean on modern technological systems from abroad, and they will also serve as learning tools for us to be able to produce and implement such technological systems in the future – Mirovic concluded.
