Another six municipalities in Vojvodina included in USAID program - agreement signed on allotment of aid for reacting in special situations
Six municipalities in Vojvodina was formally included yesterday in the USAID program for planning and reacting in critical situations. In the presence of the Ambassador of USA, Cameron Manter, and President of the Assembly of Vojvodina, Bojan Kostreš, Michael Pilsbery, Manager of this USAID's program, signed the agrement with the representatives of municipalities of Bečej, Bela Crkva, Kovačica, Plandište, Sečanj and
Žitište.
Cooperation between municipalities, provincial authorities and republic organs is of crucial importance in the reactions on critical situations caused by natural catastrophes and disasters, which is obvious if we analyse large floods in 2005 and in 2006 in Vojvodina. This USAID's program prepares municipalities to become as much ready as they can to react in critical situations and to develop the system for planning, reacting, curing of consequences and prevention.
By the way, USAID has, so far, set aside 45m USD through the project for planning and reacting in critical situations to back the efforts of municipalities in Serbia to improve prevention and reactions in case of natural disasters, crisis and special situations.
