Severance payments for 3,000 employees of Serbian Railways by the end of 2016

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic stated today that 3,000 people in the Serbian Railways would receive severance payments before the end of 2016.

– No one will be let go without receiving an adequate severance payment. The money has been secured. The first phase will be completed by the end of the year – Mihajlovic said and added that, parallel to the reduction of the number of employees, all the planned projects were being carried out.

She said that there were surplus employees in the Railways' administration, while the enterprise lacked engine drivers at the same time.

Talking about RSD 16 billion of subsidies envisioned by the budget for the railway sector, the minister clarified that they included the advance on the Russian loan and financing the completion of the Zezelj Bridge.

– These are not just subsidies for salaries, but partly infrastructural projects as well. The Railways are moving along with our reformation schedule – Mihajlovic emphasized.

This public enterprise currently employs 17,500 workers.
