The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has lent EUR 14 million to Sigur Retail Group, buyer of Mercator's Intersport ISI, for financing acquisitions and expanding in Southeast Europe.

Mercator signed a sales and purchase agreement worth EUR 34.5 million with the Polish fund Enterprise VII, run by Enterprise Investors, back in September.

Intersport ISI has nearly a hundred stores and numerous franchise partners in the countries of former Yugoslavia and Albania. The company employs nearly 900 people and its last year's sales revenues amounted to EUR 81 million.

With the financial aid of the EBRD, the new owner is planning to open 50 new stores and further develop online sales by 2021. Abanka will provide an additional EUR 2.5 million as a long-term loan and EUR 5 million as working assets.

Intersport ISI is the leading sports equipment and clothes retailer in the region, and this financial investment will further strengthen its position, according to the managements of Enterprise Investors and the EBRD.
