Farmers are asking for customs protection extension for milk

Today, the Association of Farmers has asked from the Serbian government to extend validity of tariff protection (levy) on milk and dairy products import after the New Year.According to the press release of the association, a member of the Association of farmers, have conditions for levy abolition have not been made yet, primarily because of closed Russian market for European milk.- We also think there is a big difference in subsidizing European and Serbian farmers and there is no approximate competitiveness in manufacturing. For milk producers in Serbia funds from IPARD funds are not available yet, which puts them at disadvantage compared to European farmers – it was communicated in a statement.The Association estimated the market of raw milk in Serbia is not sufficiently regulated because the National Reference Laboratory has not started working yet.
