Construction of vegetable processing facility in Secanj in progress – Opening in May 2017, jobs for 120 people

The construction of a vegetable processing factory, along with a storage facility, in Sutjeska, municipality of Secanj, is in progress. The factory is a part of the agricultural and fishing company Sveti Nikola, and, as announced, the plan is for it to open in May 2017.

Around 120 people should be employed at the facility.

The construction site was visited by Igor Mirovic, president of the Government of Vojvodina, on Thursday, November 17.

The factory for cold processing of vegetables is the first production facility to be built in the municipality of Secanj after three decades.

– We agreed with the local self-government of Secanj to organize a meeting with representatives of the Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture and to connect, in cooperation with the company, registered agricultural producers and present them with measures we are to undertake. We’re talking about allocating grants for intensifying the production, providing a link to the factory buying out and processing agricultural products – Mirovic said.

The Sutjeska factory produces its own raw materials as well. Processing capacities will amount to around 14,000 tons of vegetables, and storage capacities will reach around 7,200 tons.

– We are planning to further extend the storage capacities and to expand the activities to include the processing of fruit as well – said Sandra Medjedovic, production manager.
