Belgrade and Pristina achieve agreement on telecommunications – Unobstructed operations of Telekom Srbija in Kosovo enabled

The European Union has confirmed that Belgrade and Pristina reached, on Sunday, November 13, an agreement on continued implementation of the agreement on telecommunications made in 2013 through its mediation. As stated in the report published in Brussels, according to the agreement, Kosovo is to get an international three-digit calling code.

The agreement will enable Telekom Srbija to operate in Kosovo unobstructed, and its property will be transferred to MTS, Telekom's subsidiary in Kosovo, the report says and adds that MTS will receive a temporary mobile telephony permit.

– Kosovo will get a three-digit calling code from the International Telecommunication Unit (ITU) – the report adds.

The EU, which is the mediator in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, has stated that both sides should undertake further measures to ensure that the agreement can be fully followed through. The documents pertaining to licenses, transfer and registration of assets should be prepared by November 28.

If both sides approve of the documents following the deliberation, Serbia should send a letter to the ITU on December 3, proposing the calling code to be allocated to Kosovo.

The agreement prescribes a three-digit calling code for the area of Kosovo and Metohija, to be requested by Serbia, whereas calls between central Serbia and K&M will be treated as intercity calls.

The ITU will allocate the calling code 383 to Kosovo on December 15, whereas all international calling codes used by landline and mobile providers in Kosovo – 381, 377, 386 – will be put out of use.
