Ban on employment in public sector likely to remain in effect until March 2017

Minister of Finance Dusan Vujovic estimated on Sunday, October 30, that the ban on employments in the public sector would probably remain in effect until March next year, because the state probably wouldn't be ready to switch to the modern method of employment in the public sector on January 1.

Vujovic said this at the conference at the Government while answering the question about how to employ the needed workers in a kindergarten in Belgrade. He reminded that the general decision on the ban on employment was in effect, but also pointed out that there had been individual exceptions considered by the commission.

– The switch to the modern method is expected, so that the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government should solve this based on the structural plan of employment by sectors, but I'm not sure we are ready for this to come into effect on January 1 – he said.

Vujovic said that, due to the period of the caretaker government, certain things were slightly late and that he expected that the pertinent decisions would be made only in March 2017.

– The old system will function until the new one becomes operational – he said.

While answering the question about whether there was a possibility of employees being paid based on performance, he said that the Government wished to make sure that citizens paid only for what they received, and that, in line with that, there was a plan of the rationalization of the public sector, equalizing salaries, increasing efficiency...
