Finnish companies present top-level knowledge in production and exploitation of bioenergy

Finnish bioenergy companies shared their knowledge with their Serbian partners at the seminar held at the residence of the ambassador of Finland in Belgrade on October 12. Companies Ariterm, KPA UNICON, Miksei, Molok and Valmet presenter their products and solutions.

The harsh climate, long distances and structure of the basic industry were the main driving forces of Finland's becoming a global leader in the utilization of biomass for energy production. Having always had a vast amount of forest instead of fossil fuels, Finland has invested heavily in extensive bioenergy research, development and infrastructure.

The results of this investment can be seen in the high share of bioenergy in total energy consumption as well as in Finland's placing 2nd in the Global Cleantech Innovation Index of 2014 and EU Eco-innovation index of 2013.

Thanks to the exceptionally strong forest cluster, Finland has the most developed forest management, wood harvesting and transportation chain in the world. Annual forest growth in Finland is currently around 100 million m³, about half of which is used.

Even though forestry is dominant in Finland, Finnish companies have adjusted their technologies to utilize biomass of agricultural origin with the same efficiency as wood biomass. Furthermore, Finnish high-end expertise in waste management, recycling, waste-to-energy, and waste-based fuel goes hand in hand with other bioenergy solutions.
