The Bulgarian commission for suppression of monopoly has accused six petroleum companies of jointly manipulating fuel prices in the retail market and thereby violating the regulations on fair market competition.

Lukoil Bulgaria, Shell Bulgaria, Eko Bulgaria, the office of the Greek Hellenic Petroleum, Petrol and NIS Petrol, controlled by the Russian Gazprom Neft, were manipulating retail prices of diesel and petrol, the commission reported on Monday.

The Bulgarian regulatory authority has initiated the investigation in the fuel retail sector this February, following numerous complaints by citizens about high fuel prices despite a sharp drop of the petroleum prices in the world markets. The companies have been given 30 days to respond to the results of the investigation.
