Membership in CCIS free for three fourths of companies

Beginning with January 1, all businessmen and entrepreneurs in Serbia will be bound by law to pay the membership fee, but only in one place and in an amount several times lower than before. For three fourths of the companies, the membership, as Politika learns, will be free.
– Around 220,000 entrepreneurs will no longer be paying the membership fee starting next year, meaning all newly founded companies in their first or second year of operations and 70,000 micro and small enterprises with an operating profit of up to RSD 20 million – Cadez said for Politika.
Representatives of the Association for Protection of Constitutionality have recently reported that they have submitted an initiative to the Constitutional Court of Serbia for the assessment of constitutionality of contested provisions of the Law on Chambers.
According to Cadez, the purpose of legal membership are not membership fees, but to make the Chamber representative and enable it to stand for the entirety of the Serbian commercial sector, bringing its interests in line and communicating with the state from a unified stance.
– The aim is to provide the the commercial sector with the best, most useful services possible, to have the Chamber cost the businessmen less, while giving them more, to provide companies with services they truly need for the money they set aside starting with January 1, that is, packages specially created for each company category, and to have them recognize their own interest in being members of the new chamber system – Cadez explains.
The Chamber is aware that the way of calculating membership fees as it was until now is not sustainable and a great burden to the economy. Companies used to set aside 0.19% of gross salaries a month. In addition to that, the fees were paid at two, three, or more places, as the chamber system was not unified.
– Following months of consultations with businessmen, we came up with a new model, in which the membership fee is calculated in line with the economic strength of a company, expressed by its operating income according to the data from the latest published final account – Cadez says.
The businessmen will decide on the cost of the membership themselves, organized in their own parliaments. The final decision will be made by the Assembly of the CCIS at the proposal of the Managing Board.
