In Podgorica, on September 21-22, an event called “Italy & Montenegro: Building Together 2016” was held. The event was organized by ICE – Italian Trade Promotion Agency in cooperation with the Italian Construction Contractor's Association (ANCE) and with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Podgorica.
The meeting focused primarily on the sectors of construction and infrastructure, as well as possibilities of cooperation between Italian and Montenegrin companies in this area and was attended by high representatives of major political, economic, local and international financial institutions active in Montenegro, as well as by representatives of nearly 40 Italian companies.
The two-day program encompassed the presentation of the most significant projects and development plans defined by the Government in Podgorica, which were talked about by the deputy prime minister of Montenegro, Petar Ivanovic, and high representatives of the relevant institutions and ministries. The areas especially in focus included transport and healthcare infrastructure and infrastructures within spatial and urban plans, as well as utility and energy infrastructures.
Furthermore, in order to provide detailed and complete information on the possibilities of cooperation in these sectors, representatives of local and international administrative and financial institutions introduced the participants to various measures of support and credit lines meant for the realization of said projects. Italian companies already present in Montenegro shared their experiences.
Estimating the outcome of the event, the director of ICE in Belgrade and Podgorica, Giovanni Mafodda, pointed out that the meeting in Podgorica had enabled the presentation of the main projects and possible areas of intervention for Italian companies, not just in construction and infrastructure, but in other sectors as well, among which were renewable sources of energy, agriculture and the food industry, the wood industry and especially health tourism.
– The great response by Italian companies has once again confirmed that there is great interest in doing business and cooperating in this region, which is why we've scheduled a new meeting, this time in Belgrade, on October 19-20. These initiatives are a part of a far reaching joint program of promotion of the Italian construction sector abroad by ICE, ANCE and OICE, the association for engineering, architecture and technical and economic counseling, and one of our main goals is to provide companies with thorough information on possibilities of entering the local market, with the aim of helping establish a strategic, stable and long-term cooperation between Italian and local companies – Mafodda said.
