Starting with Saturday, October 1, the price of electricity in Serbia will increase by 3.8%. The average price for all households, not including taxes, excise taxes and RES compensations, will be RSD 6.6 per KW, which will cause electricity bills to go up by around RSD 100. Compared to the bills so far, the new ones, which will be sent in November, will charge around RSD 3,700 for the average electricity consumption of 500 KW and the same number of more and less expensive kilowatts, including taxes, excise taxes and RES compensations, instead of around RSD 3,500. This amount should be increased by the public service tax of RSD 150, implemented at the start of 2016.

By the way, the price of electricity will increase for those consumers who have the right to electrical power supply at regulated prices (households and retail purchasers whose annual consumption doesn’t exceed 30,000 KW), whereas others will be getting it at market prices, from suppliers of their own choice, and will continue to get electricity at previously agreed prices. Nevertheless, it’s safe to say that the increase will impact the majority of the population of Serbia, as households and retail purchasers make up around 62% of end user electricity consumption.

The difference between the new and the old kilowatt prices is not that big and doesn’t exceed RSD 0.50. Instead of the kilowatt price of RSD 5.62 in the green zone at the high tariff and RSD 1.40 at the low tariff, not including taxes, excise taxes and RES compensations, the new prices are RSD 5.84 and RSD 1.45 respectively. Prices in the blue zone will change from RSD 8.44 and RSD 2.11 to RSD 8.76 and RSD 2.19, and, in the red zone, from RSD 16.88 and RSD 4.22 to 17.52 and RSD 4.38.

The bills, then, won’t increase by much, and might be kept at the same level with a little bit more rational electricity consumption. For example, using only two light bulbs less could keep the bills at the same level. However, the opposite is true as well. Keeping the consumption at the same level and increasing the use of more expensive kilowatts can cause bills to increase significantly.

First price increase since August 2015

The electricity price increase to come into effect tomorrow is the first one since August 2015. The increase amounted to 12% at the time, but practically, the price of kilowatt increased by only slightly more than it will now – 4.5%. The reason is that most of the price increase in August 2015 came from excise taxes, which were first introduced then.
