The World’s Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials and Systems – BAU 2017 – will be held January 16-21, 2017, at the Munich Fair, with over 2,000 exhibitors from more than 40 countries.

The fair will be held in all 17 halls on an area of around 185,000 m2, and it is expected that the percentage of foreign exhibitors will be around 30%. As the organizers announce, the aim is to once again reach the number of 250,000 expert guests.

The German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, as an official representative of the Munich Fair, has organized the presentation of the event in Belgrade. As announced, the four key topics will be: living and building 2020, smart buildings, digital design, construction and management and intelligent facades.

– The BAU fair is a platform for premiers, as the exhibition industry coordinates the development of its new products in line with the cycle of this fair, where innovative solutions and products are presented for the first time. What’s specific is that all the technologies, products and materials implemented in design and construction are brought together in one expert fair. This is a unique characteristic of this fair, which sets standards, provides guidelines for the future and gathers all the relevant factors in the construction industry worldwide – said Julia Wenzel, representative of the Munich Fair.

– This starting point, which encompasses all the aspects of construction, makes BAU a mandatory source of information for everybody related to design and construction: from investors, through designers and architects, to tradesmen and facility managers, which is why we welcome expert guests from all continents every two years – Wenzel added.

For a number of years now, BAU has been completely filled, and there’s also a waiting list, which so far contains 400 companies. In order to enable a larger number of companies to participate, the construction of an additional two halls (C5 and C6) started this spring. The construction will take two years, so it is expected that they will be available to exhibitors at the next BAU (to be held in 2019). The new halls will provide an additional area of 20,000 m2.

– Our goal was not only to shorten the waiting lists, but also to strengthen the main themes and increase the number of visitors – Wenzel said.

The representative of the Munich Fair pointed out that the program, which encompasses all areas of construction, attracts expert guests from all sectors of design and construction.

– Construction and trade companies make up the largest percentage of visitors, around 37%. The sector of trade with construction and other materials is also well represented with 30%, whereas the number of designers, architects and civil engineers has increased considerably in the past few years and has reached 26%. Other visitors come from the commercial sector, housing and real estate, research and high education etc.

Vlastimir Stojanovic, of the German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, reminded that German fairs were world famous and one of the most important instruments of international trade, the place where contacts were made and maintained and experiences shared.

– The German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce enables companies from Serbia to present their operations in the largest German fairs, and BAU is certainly among the best. Considering the theme of the fair, we hope for an increased interest by the companies from Serbia in the upcoming BAU 2017 in Munich – Stojanovic said.

The Fair Department at the Chamber represents international fairs in Munich, Cologne and Nuremberg, and the Chamber’s support to Serbian companies begins with providing detailed information on fair events, registration and reservation of stands. In cooperation with its members, the Chamber provides support in designing and raising stands, logistics, customs clearance and organization trips.

When it comes to the architecture fair in Munich, a Serbian company took part in BAU 2015, and there were 551 visitors from Serbia.

Vlastimir Stojanovic said that the number of visitors from Serbia was constantly growing. He explained that it was necessary that all companies which wanted to participate should start preparing on time and that the construction of new halls might be good news for interested companies from Serbia.

Julia Wenzel reminded that those interested could browse the online catalog and find information on all exhibitors they found interesting. She also announced that a BAU 2017 app would become available from AppStore in November. Furthermore, for those who wish to contact the exhibitors and schedule meetings, a matchmaking tool will be offered for the first time, soon to be available at the fair’s website.

Wenzel added that tickets were cheaper if bought online, also providing for a quicker entry to the event.
