The megalomaniac project of the Zvezda 2 hotel with six floors in the very center of Vrnjacka Banja, whose construction stopped in 1990, is a shameful legacy of this tourist spot. Only the bare structure remains, with holes, ruined concrete columns and remains of the scaffolding at every corner.

However, this hotel, which leans on the famous Zvezda should soon be turned into a resort, along with some other hotels and mansions owned by HTP Fontana from Vrnjacka Banja, because interested buyers have turned up.

The president of the municipality of Vrnjacka Banja, Boban Djurovic, said for Tanjug that there were several businessmen willing to buy the HTP Fontana facilities and invest in them.

– So far, we've talked to representatives of the Alco Group, Zepter, owners of the Mona hotel and several other interested companies – Djurovic said.

HTP Fontana has gone through several unsuccessful attempts at privatization. It is the largest hotel company in Serbia with a capacity of 800 beds in four facilities, and it is also the backbone of tourism in Vrnjacka Banja. Their facilities can be found on some of the most exclusive locations in Vrnjacka Banja.

– According to the decision by the Privatization Agency, property not subject to restitution processes, fully owned by Fontana, will be sold, primarily hotels Zvezda 1, Zvezda 2 and Fontana, to be sold individually or jointly – pointed out the president of the municipality of Vrnjacka Banja and emphasized that he expected that the buyer would be selected by the end of 2016.

The Zvezda hotel has an area of 11,455 m2, Fontana has 9.172 m2, Sloboda has 5,135 m2 (in restitution), Vila San has 657 m2 (in restitution), the Srbija hotel has 955 m2 (in restitution), the Beli Izvor hotel has 1,174 m2, while sports courts have an area of 12,888 m2. The Svajcarija cafe has 705 m2, the Goc cafe has 425 m2, the Sneznik restaurant has 693 m2, and the company also owns accompanying facilities.
