The main topic of the meeting was the draft agreement between the Government of Serbia and the Government of Hungary on sailing the Tisa, which will, if adopted, fully change the 1955 agreement, which is currently in effect, says the announcement by the Bureau of Information of Vojvodina.
The most important change is that the Tisa will switch to an international sailing status. However, there was a problem related to expenses of the operation of the lock at Becej, so the Secretariat decided to have PE Vode Vojvodine compensate for those expenses.
– We hope that this agreement and the new sailing regime will improve our relations with Hungary and enable a significant shift to be made in development of freight and passenger traffic on the Tisa watercourse and development of its coastal infrastructure – said Provincial Secretary for Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Vuk Radojevic.
The announcement states that the draft agreement fully redefines relations and terms of sailing the Tisa in line with the changed natural, social and political circumstance in this part of Europe.
