KUBUROVIC: Unburden the courts and pass the law on the origin of property

Minister of Justice Nela Kuburovic stated the the Law on Enforcement and Security had unburdened the courts to a great extent, that close to a million cases had left the courts and announced the passing of the law on the origin of property.

– This shows that the courts will be unburdened and that they will become more efficient in enforcement and other areas – Kuburovic stated on TV Pink.

She added that the ministry would intensify the supervision of enforcement officers starting in September, in order to improve their work and prevent the violation of the law, considering that they had been given extensive authority.

Talking about the Law on Domestic Violence, she said that it was one of the first laws that the ministry would put before the National Assembly and that she hoped that it would happen in September.

– We hope that the law will have the effect we're intending it to have. Certain repressive measures are prescribed, but only to the end of preventing the occurrence of domestic violence – the minister said.

The law, as she says, will enable a better coordination of all the competent authorities of the police, prosecutor's office, courts and social work centers in order to put a stop to domestic violence.

– Along with the passing of the law, the penal code will be amended to define new criminal acts in this area – Kuburovic said and added that, by passing the law, the Ministry of Law was fulfilling its obligation to the Council of Europe, defined in the Istanbul Convention, regarding the protection of women and children.

Talking about the chapter 23, she said that the Ministry had been working on it intensively and that 80% of what was defined in the Action Plan had already been realized.

– Members of the European Commission are coming to Belgrade in September to define the criteria and the manner of reporting to the end of monitoring how efficiently we are carrying out the measures defined in the Action Plan – she emphasized.

She announced the passing of the law on the origin of property and the law on free legal aid by the end of the year.

– The law on the origin of property will prescribe that those who posses certain property need to pay taxes – Kuburovic concluded.
