Two companies each from France and Spain, as well as a German company, have remained in competition for the construction of a waste treatment facility in Vinca. The project, which was announced in mid-2015 as the largest of its kind in Europe, should start in 2017 and be completed in 2020.

– Negotiations with qualified bidders are in progress and the agreement with the best bidder is expected to be signed by the end of this year, which is in line with the complexity of the project. The agreement pertains not just to the construction, but to the management of the facility and the rehabilitation and closing of the existing landfill – the City Administration says.

The non-binding invitation was initially answered by 52 interested companies and the public invitation which followed received 11 bids.

– Suez and Veolia (France), EVN (Germany), Urbaser and FCC (Spain) are the companies which have met the criteria for the next phase. Of these groups, some provide the technology only, whereas others perform construction works – the City Administration specifies. The value of the project is estimated at EUR 300 million.
