The Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport is interested in turning Sava Center into the company headquarters and to invest, in the next three years, over EUR 30 million in its reconstruction and adaptation in the first phase, stated the acting director of the airport, Sasa Vlaisavljevic, for Tanjug.
– We have offered a very good solution to the state and the City of Belgrade – to be a minority partner to the City in Sava Center, with a 49% share – Vlaisavljevic said.
The management and all operational departments would be located there. Sava Center would change its name to Congress Center Nikola Tesla Airport, and would include a tower, a shopping mall and a hotel.
As Vlaisavljevic said, Sava Center loses EUR 90,000 to 100,000 a month. The airport has also offered its management.
– The plan is to bring the company to the stage where it's breaking even in three years. In the first three years, the investments would amount to around EUR 30 million, which would be financed from the airport's own assets, without interest rates.
Vlaisavljevic said that the City of Belgrade had earlier placed a non-binding tender for Sava Center and that the airport had placed a bid, since it had been interested in participating in the binding tender which would be placed soon.
– The Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport doesn't have its headquarters at the airport, and Sava Center is a business challenge to us as well and an opportunity for the entire administration and the top management to move to a less expensive premises – said the chairman of the Belgrade Airport for Tanjug and pointed out that the company wished to increase its commercial profits by expanding its commercial content.
The construction of a tower (ANT) of 25 to 30 floors is also planned on the location. The commercial section of the complex would be located at the ground floor and the first two floors, the business premises at the lower, and the hotel at the higher floors. The final three floors would be open for visitors, contain various content and as such would be a social gathering site.
They say at the airport that running a hotel within an airport is considered standard practice in the world.
