Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia




Miroljub Labus was born in 1947 in Mala Krsna. He received his PhD from the Faculty of Economics, Belgrade University, in 1978. Since 1971, Labus has been a professor at the Faculty of Law, Belgrade University. In 1983 he was a Fulbright Lecturer, Programme on Participation and Labour-Managed Systems, at Cornell University in New York. In 1983 and 1984 he was a visiting assistant professor at the Department of Economics, Cornell University. In the period between 1986 and 1994, he worked as a senior adviser at the Federal Statistical Office in Belgrade.



Between 1987 and 1991, Labus was macroeconomics adviser with the Yugoslav government. From 1992 until 1996, he was a deputy in the Yugoslav parliament and member of the committee on monetary policy. Between 1994 and 1997, he was a vice-president of the Democratic Party. From 1999 until 2000, Labus was the chairman of the G17 Plus administrative board and became the party president in 2002. In the period between 2000 and 2003, he was a Yugoslav deputy prime minister and the minister of international economic relations, as well as the Yugoslav governor at the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).



From 1996 until 1997, Labus worked with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He was also adviser to the National Bank of Yugoslavia governor in 1996 and a consultant at the World Bank in 1997. In the period between 1994 and 2000, he was the editor of Economic Barometer of the Economics Institute in Belgrade, the editor of Economic Trends of the Federal Statistical Office from 1990 until 1996, as well as a research fellow at the Economics Institute in Belgrade. Since 1996, Labus has been a member of the UNDP`s standing economic committee in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.



He is married and has two children.
