Nikola Tesla Airport to get a new terminal by the end of the year – A 30 mil EUR investment in Sava Centar also planned
In addition to the two existing terminals, the airport will get a terminal with the latest-technology equipment – T2b. The first phase of the construction is over. This is the connecting section between Terminals 1 and 2, which will be used by passengers and airline companies with the goal of increasing the comfort.
Sasa Vlaisavljevic, director of Nikola Tesla Airport, said that equipping the passenger check-in hall with a modern transport system is planned for phase two.
- There will be eight traditional check-in desks, two with a dual function, and three automatic ones for unassisted check-ins, the so called self check-ins. The rearranging of the central terminal hall will also begin soon – said Vlaisavljevic for Blic.
Aside from expanding its capacities, the airport has, mostly due to flights to America, increased safety, which is now up to the highest world standards. In the past two years, the cooperation with other airports in Serbia and the region has been intensified. To that end, Nikola Tesla airport has donated 50 mil RSD for the construction of a terminal building at Ponikve Airport in Uzice, which should become operational starting this fall.
Nikola Tesla Airport is interested in reconstructing Sava Centar. They have applied for the non-binding public invitation announced by the City of Belgrade and are waiting for the tender.
They are planning to invest 30 mil EUR in the reconstruction and to make Sava Centar into a congressional center which will also serve as the airport's administrative headquarters. A shopping mall and a hotel-tower with 20-25 stories should also be built.
- Our offer to the City is to let us establish the management of Sava Centar in order to stabilize the business activities over the next three years and operate without losses – said Vlaisavljevic.
Privatization won't stop the activities
- A new privatization adviser has been appointed, who will try to stir the state, the majority shareholder, in the right direction when it comes to the airport's business activities. This will not stall other business activities, but we are focusing on short-term plans at the moment– explained Vlaisavljevic.
