The "Eurotehna" company from Bajina Basta, whose biggest buyer is "Gorenje", has bought two factory halls of the defunct IKL out of bankruptcy for 464,000 EUR and, with them, the largely unusable equipment.

IKL was closed down back in the 1990s, and, as Goran Stevanetic, the owner of "Eurotehna" states for "Blic", besides the machines overgrown with weeds, only darkness, sheets of cobwebs and flocks of pigeons can be seen in the halls.

- It will take a few months to make the space suitable for the needs of the factory to which the production will be moved from the existing machinery. We will hire 30 more workers, in addition to the existing 40. We are negotiating with "Gorenje", for which we are producing certain machine parts, to move a part of their production to our facilities. Also, we have already come to business agreements with Italian companies for which we need larger facilities - says Stevanetic.

The revival of the former IKL industrial complex is of great significance for the small town on Drina, says Radomir Filipovic, the municipal president of Bajina Basta.

- This is the biggest investment in Bajina Basta in two decades, at least regarding employment. Thirty jobs is a lot for the municipality in which the transition has nearly eradicated the industry. We will try to ask the Serbian Government for the subsidies for the newly employed - says Filipovic.
