Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright has publicly identified himself as Bitcoin creator, worldwide media report. The media have been trying for years to discover the identity of the Bitcoin inventor who created the virtual currency Bitcoin in 2009, working under the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto.
Unlike regular currencies, Bitcoin has no central bank and it does not support any bank or government. The value and use of Bitcoin is controled exclusively by users - consumers.
According to the British weekly Economist, Craig Wright is a 45-year-old computer scientist and the inventor of Bitcoin.
Mr Wright has provided technical proof to back up his claim using coins known to be owned by Bitcoin's creator. At the meeting with the BBC, Mr Wright digitally signed messages using cryptographic keys created during the early days of Bitcoin's development. The keys are inextricably linked to blocks of bitcoins known to have been created or "mined" by Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin is also known under the name of 'digital currency' or 'electronic money'.
