Serbia's public debt at the end of February totals 73,6% of GDP

Public debt of Serbia in February 2016 totaled EUR 24.86 billion which was 73.6 % of gross domestic product(GDP), the Ministry of Finance announced on Wednesday(March 23, 2016).

Total direct obligations of the state are 22.50 billion and indirect EUR 2.35 billion.

In January, Serbia's public debt was EUR 24.82 billion, and at the end of 2015 they were EUR 24.80 billion which accounted for 76 % of GDP.

Serbia's public debt at the end of 2014 totaled EUR 22.76 billion or 70.4 % of GDP, while at the end of 2013 it was EUR 20.14 billion with a share in 59.6 % in GDP.


At the end of 2000, public debt was EUR 14.17 billion or 201.2 % of GDP and the lowest level of public debt was in 2008, when it totaled EUR 8.78 billion or 28.3 % of GDP.

The Law on budget system limits public debt stake in GDP to 45 %.
