Three cannabis-based drugs approved

The moment the registration ends, most likely as of mid of the year, patients suffering multiple sclerosis, oncological patients with progressed carcinoma, in some cases people suffering from AIDS and rheumatologic arthritis, in Serbia, will be able to legally treat themselves with cannabis-based preparations, Novosti reports.

The expecrt commission for preparation fo cannabis for medical purposes decided to, at least for now, usage of three preparations containing so-called tetrahydrocannabinol, i.e. THC. Cannabis oil is not among them whose legalization some association asked for and which is sold at black market for 300 euros per bottle.

Usage of "dormabinol", synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol for treatment of weight loss with d HIV-AIDS patients is to be legalized as well as for treatment of supplementary effects of chemotherapy with oncological patients when other drugs do not help.

Apart from that, usage of "nabinol", synthetic substance similar to THC, for treatment of sickness and vomiting for patients at chemotherapy who do not react on drugs from antiemetic group.

The third cannabis-based drug is "sativeks", a spray containing natural tetrahydrocannabinols, for symptomatic softening of motor disturbance (spasticity) with the ones where the problem is not adequately controlled through conventional therapy.
