Konstantin Veliki Airport in Nis this year broke the 2006 record for the biggest number of passenger served, although regular flights from the airport in Nis commenced only six months ago.
Nis Mayor Zoran Perisic announced that March or April 2016 would see the city officials having a serious talk with an airline from Turkey about the introduction of regular Nis-Istanbul flights.
- The recent Turkish-Serbian Forum has made it possible for us to make a contact with the representatives of an air carrier from Turkey. There are few more airlines that are seriously interested in operating flights from Nis - said Perisic.
One of the potential air carriers could be Turkey's Pegasus which requested the documentation on Konstantin Veliki Airport back in June 2015.
Zorana Mihajlovic, the minister of construction, transportation and infrastructure, says that Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, Flight Control Agency, Construction Ministry and the City of NIs invested EUR 3 million in the Nis airport in the past year. She stressed that they would keep investing because the airport in Nis was important for the entire region.
Zorana Mihajlovic noted that the airport in Nis expected about 80,000 passengers in 2016.
