The French-Swiss company Lafarge Holcim has reported a decrease in profit in the third quarter of 2015 because the expenses of creating the world's largest cement maker took their toll.
In the first business report since the merger of Holcim and Lafarge that took place around the middle of this year, the company says that the gross operating profit (EBITDA) dropped to CHF 1.3 billion (EUR 1.2 billion) in Q3 on a comparative basis, that is, to CHF 3.6 billion in the first nine months of this year, which is a 18.8% decrease, France-presse reports.

This is a "consequence of big costs of merger and restructuring, unfavorable FX rate, economic deceleration of China and Brazil, as well as deceleration in France and Switzerland, the company said in a release, adding that better business results had been achieved in the USA, Asia, Oceania and Latin America.

Lafarge Holcim has also raised the amount of dividend to pay out to shareholders this year to CHF 1.50 from last year's CHF 1.30 per share.
