Slovenia's leading provider of telecommunications services, Telekom Slovenije, has joined forces with the U.S. fund Apollo to submit a joint binding bid for the acquisition of Serbia's national telecom firm Telekom Srbija, STA news agency cites some unofficial but well-informed sources as claiming.

According to the Slovenian news agency STA, this decision was made yesterday by the Supervisory Board of Telekom Slovenije, while the green light for submitting a bid was also given by the Supervisory Board of the Slovenian Sovereign Holding (SSH).

The Privatization Agency invited non-binding bids for participation in the sale of Telekom Srbija on July 3rd, and these bids should be published November 16th.

Interest in the acquisition of this Serbian telecom firm has also been expressed by Telecom China whose managers for that reason met with the competent representatives of the Serbian government in Belgrade last week.

Representative trade unions of this national firm are opposing the sale of the company, and Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said yesterday that Telekom Srbija would not be sold if the final purchase price for that company was not good enough.
