Sabac closer to obtaining port - Memorandum of Understanding signed with Czechs

Sabac Mayor Nebojsa Zelenovic and Ljubomir Prohaska, representative of the GEOtest company from Czech Republic, signed Wednesday (23 September 2015) a Memorandum of Understanding in the City Hall, it was announced on the official website of the city. According to Mayor Zelenovic, signing of the MoU was the primary condition for the City of Sabac to obtain a port. The need for transportation more than 2 million tonnes of goods from Zvornik via Sabac creates an opportunity for introducing the new form of transport.

- This is an important regional project that will last for more than 20 years. We will establish communication with all significant government organs and institutions in order for Sabac to get a port and open it for traffic as soon as possible. This will create an opportunity for raising the level of economic development of our area. Also, businessmen from this area will become more competitive and be able to transport their goods in an easier and cheaper manner - said Sabac Mayor Nebojsa Zelenovic.

He noted that the MoU would influence both signatories to do their part of the work as quickly as possible. The City of Sabac is to provide remaining conditions for completing the port and ensuring the navigability of the Sava River.

Ljubomir Prohaska noted that GEOtest was a company with forty-year experience in international cooperation operating in the field of environmental protection.

- We operate in Bosnia, Croatia, Albania and Serbia, but we are also active outside Europe. The position of Sabac is good for us, and so is its infrastructure and road network. From what I've been able to see so far, Sabac is a quickly developing city - said Prohaska.
