According to Friedrich Roedler, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Erste Group, this decision was made before the deadline because the Group wanted to "make sure that with Andreas Treichl at the top will continue on its successful path in a constantly changing competitive environment and under sustained regulatory pressure."
Roedler pointed out that Treichl had proven to be an excellent leader, especially in the past few difficult years, making clear decisions, implementing agreed strategies and constantly adopting the company to consumers' new requests.
Andreas Treichl was born 1952. He entered the banking business in 1977, when he started working as a credit analyst in the New York bank Chase Manhattan. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Vienna and assumed the position of the Chief Executive Officer of the Erste Group in 1997.
Under his management, the bank has become a leading provider of financial services in Central and East Europe with over 16 million clients. During that time, Treichl also launched few initiatives for sustainable social development with the aim of enabling endangered groups access to financial services.
