As media have been reporting these days, French trading chain, Intermarche is near the agreement on sale of its nine Interex shops in Serbia.

In 2012 already, Intermarche withdrew from the Romanian market, last year it stepped out of Kosovo and Bosnia and now it is waiting for the approval of the commission for competition protection so that it would sell its supermarkets in Serbia to local trading chain, Aman.

Withdrawal from the Balkans, as French media report, is more strategic decision of the company which has nothing to do with financial reasons. As of now, French chain will focus on mother market and WE countries, region from company headquarters and only CEE market where French chain will continue network development will be Poland. It is not surprising since Poland is one of the biggest trading chains with more than 220 supermarkets.
