Belarusian enterprises interested in privatization of Serbian firms

Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali spoke in Belarus with Minsk Mayor Andrei Shorets about the ways to improve cooperation between the two cities in the field of economy, business, tourism and culture.

He stressed that there were Belarusian companies interested in privatizing certain firms from Serbia, adding that the invitation for participation in tenders the City of Belgrade planned on organizing was open to all, Beoinfo reports.

The two mayors then toured factories producing trolleybuses, trams and buses - Belkommunmash and Maz. During the visit to Belkommunmash, to which the Belgrade City Transportation Company GSP Beograd delivered 86 trolleybuses, the mayor said it was unbelievable that nobody had communicated with them for four years after the last procurement, stressing that the representatives of the Public Transportation Directorate and GSP Beograd were expected to visit Belkommunmash within the next two weeks to talk about funding and modernization of the entire trolley system.

He also noted that Maz had expressed interest in participating in a tender for the acquisition of new buses in Belgrade and promised to offer favorable financial terms for that procurement.

– This will contribute to the development of trade between Belarus and Serbia, and we should also not forget that some of the parts made by Prva Petoletka and Agropanonka are built in MAZ buses. Serbian companies produce parts for their buses, and MAZ also has it own company in Kragujevac - MAZ Balkan, so that even when we buy their buses, they are equipped with Serbian components and they employ people from our country, which additionally stimulates the development of our economy and employment – said the mayor.

Minsk Mayor Shorets agreed that the cooperation must be more active and these meetings more frequent. He said that a common goal was to increase the value of traffic of goods to USD 500 million.
