The joint-stock company Majevica in Backa Palanka has been undergoing restructuring for years, and the state sold its stake in this famous company on June 1st. This factory, which used to employ up to 1,500 metal workers, now has about 300 workers and mainly produces agricultural machines. The fate of this company, as Backa Palanka officials point out, is of huge importance for this municipality with the population of about 57,000 and approximately 6,000 unemployed people.

– With the engagement of the Economy Ministry, Minister Zorana Mihajlovic and Majevica CEO Radenko Komad, the chances of saving the factory are much bigger - Backa Palanka Mayor Aleksandar Djedovac underlined. – Practically from the beginning of this month, the factory has been in the privatization process, and the only thing worth saying for now is that a company from Russia, a long-time business partner of Majevica, has expressed interest in the company in Backa Palanka - he added.
In the last few decades of the 20th century, Majevica was famous in the market of ex-Yugoslavia and Europe for the production of agricultural machines and machine tools, pumps for liquid fuel and cisterns for the EU and sugar beet extraction solutions, including self-propelled six-row combines. This extremely technologically advanced production was carried out in cooperation with the world-famous French company Moreau.
