The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced Wednesday that it would implement about USD 3.7 million worth of projects in cooperation with nine new partner organizations from civil and private sectors.
As it was stressed in a release, USAID has donated a total of USD 2.7 million, while partner organizations have provided close to USD 987,000 for this purpose.
At a reception in the residence of the US ambassador, Ambassador Michael Kirby and USAID Mission Director to Serbia Azza El-Abd paid tribute to new partner organizations, among which are the consortium of Serbian Association of Managers and DNA Communications, Women's Education Center, Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, Center for Free Elections and Democracy, National Coalition for Decentralization, Center for Research, Transparency and Responsibility, Ana i Vlade Divac Foundation, Smart Kolektiv, and Trag Foundation.
- Through this partner relationship, local organizations, which are at the source of both problem and solution, assume much bigger responsibility. In that way, the funding granted by USAID will help achieve better and more sustainable results - said the US ambassador.
Since 2013, USAID in Serbia has provided USD 9 million in direct grants to 18 government institutions, civil society organizations and private companies.
- New partnerships cover different fields. They strive to improve the sustainability of civil society and the representativeness and responsibility of the authorities, and to help the citizens of Serbia adapt to the variable economic environment, strengthen the youth and improve the role of women in the government - said Azza El-Abd.
USAID in Serbia currently accepts new applications from local civil society organizations for projects aimed at democratic and economic development.
