Exhibit of most precious Broz’s automobiles in Museum 25. maj
Hall of Museum 25. maj on Dedinje, where gifts and symbols of hedonistic life of Josip Broz Tito have been kept until recently, is decorated by two black limousines from his rich "farm": "mercedes 600 pullman" and "rolls-royce phantom 5".
Automobiles are classics from 1950’s and 1960’s and darkened windows hide luxury. Favorite Tito’s automobiles used to carry esteemed presidents, European and world rulers, princes and princesses who used to come to Brione, small island located on the far north of the Mediterranean, where the important decisions for “the third world“ were made.
The limousines, together with the other vehicles that belong to the Army of Serbia and Montenegro, are kept in the Club of the Guard. In former Marshal’s collection "rolls-royce" is very interesting museum exhibit. In that series, of which production lasted only during nine years, in period from 1959 to 1968, only 832 automobiles were assembled, 93 of which are not convertibles, like this Tito’s one. Mighty engine passed only 21,000 kilometers, all of them on Brioni. British queen Elizabeth had that honour to be driven in that car on the ocassion of her visit to the Marshal.
The second exhibited model "mercedes 600 pullman" came into posession of late Marshal in 1978, two years before he died. In the limousine that weighs few tons, with engine capacity of six liters, Milan Panić, ex Prime Minister of SRJ, used to be driven. Slobodan Milošević also enjoyed charms of that car with rare guests who visited him. The same limousine used to transport emissaries who came to see Milošević, bringing him messages from the world in the time of sanctions and bombing. The car was also used by Nehru and Indira Gandi, president of Syria Asad, presidents of Egypt Naser, El Sadat and Mubarak, Gadaphi from Lybia... Today this vehicle is still in perfect order. It passed only 54,000 kilometers.
