Desecrated statue of Pele
Bronze statue of the legend of world football, Pele, stayed without hands after unknown person desecrated his monument in city of Salvador, in north Brazilian state of Bahia.
The bronze statue of Pele in original size was placed in front of stadium "Fonte Nova" in Salvador in 1971, next to which was the bronze replica of trophy "Gil Rime", which was awarded to the world cup winners in Pele’s time.
The thief took the bronze trophy of 20 kg and broke the hands off the statue of Pele.
The Police assume that the thief is not some football fanatic who collects souvenirs, but a thief who wants to sell bronze.
The authorities of the city of Salvador announced that they will regenerate the statue, which would be placed within the stadium. As soon as that job is finished, the opening of the new statue will take place in the presence of Pele himself.
