Serbia and Czech Republic are interested in building hydroelectric power stations on the Drina River, the Serbian Energy and Mining Ministry announced in a release yesterday.
According to the release, Serbian Energy and Mining Minister Aleksandar Antic talked about this and other mining and energy issues with a delegation of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade led by Deputy Minister Vladimir Bartl.
On this occasion, both sides confirmed a progress in their cooperation on projects related to underground coal mines Cirikovac, Soko and Stavalj.
According to some earlier information, Czech companies are interested in investing in mines Cirkovac and Soko as well as in the expansion of mines and the construction of Stavalj thermal power station near Sjenica.
It was said in previous talks with partners from Czech Republic that an investment of about EUR 800 million was required to increase production at Stavalj Mine from current 50,000 to 2 million tonnes a year and to build a new thermal power station. The project should be implemented in cooperation with the Czech partner Alta.
The Czech delegation is staying in Belgrade for the eighth session of the Mixed Committee for Economic Cooperation.
