IT innovations epicenter - take a look at the most interesting moments at the Mobile World Congress Fair in Barcelona (PHOTO)
On Thursday, the biggest world fair of mobile technology, Mobile World Congress (MWC), in Barcelona, (March, 5, 2015) closed its doors. According to the official statistics, this year’s MWC exceeded expectations.
A four-day event, March 2-5 was visited by record 93.000 visitors from almost 200 countries of the world. More than 2.000 exhibitors presented their products and services on 100.000 m2. Some 3.800 media from the entire world, eKapija among them as well, reported from one of the most important fields in ICT. Preliminary results show the fair of mobile equipment brought profit of EUR 436 m to local community.
EKOCENTER
As eKapija has already reported, Ericsson presented its current results and announced plans for 2015. Swedish company announced partnership with companies such as Intel and Telstra. Apart from a number of innovations, EKOCENTAR where Ericsson and Coca-Cola work on is comprised. It is a pilot project called EKOCENTER, which will help to population of the developing countries to get clean potable water, solar energy and mobile communication, The project is implemented in cooperation with Tigo from Ruanda and German startup company Solarkiosk.
EKOCENTER project is based on mobile kiosks which will be managed by entrepreneurs from local communities and will be a place of gathering of population from poorly developed areas. Ericsson solutions - Managed Rural Coverage and TV Anywhere services will be implemented at the first mobile kiosks in Ruanda. Coca-Cola will implement together with Solarkiosk EKOCENTER project in six countries in Africa and Asia during 2015.
Intel’s program for startups
Cisco, Deutsche Telekom and Intel announced Challenge Up!, mutual program startup accelerator for projects in Internet of Things – IoT from the region of Europe, Middle East and Africa, EBIA. Program has the objective to help innovative IoT startup companies to step into the market faster through mutual projects, foreign countries, mentoring, connection of high officials and corporative property.
Huawei proudly presented another member of Honor family- long-awaited Honor 6+, the first smartphone in Honor series which has eagle eye dual-camera as well as another smart phone - Honor 4x. Chinese company presented new tablet - MediaPad X2.
Another Chinese giant showed new things in Barcelona. Lenovo made three new tablets for consumer: a few Android tablets of A series, Lenovo TAB 2 A8 and A10-70, and Windows tablet, Ideapad MIIX 300. These three different devices had their premiere at the Mobile World 2015 congress.
Lenovo in Barcelona presented three new devices in its portfolio of smart phones VIBE Shot and A7000 and pocket projectors Lenovo Pocket Projector.
HTC Grip
HTC presented its first high-performance, smart device for monitoring sports activities based on GPS - HTC Grip. Compatible with devices on Android and iOS1 platforms, as well as supplements with connect with Bluetooth technology, such as devices for heart beat monitoring functionality of Grip.
(HTC Grip) As the company says, device has the option of monitoring and recording of a line of different exercising. It is water-proof and the battery was installed with turned GPS and lasts for five hours which enables Grip to precisely record route, distance, training and calories burnt.
Samsung
Long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S6 had its premier at MWC, and Samsung Electronic presented Samsung Pay, mobile payment service which will enable users of MasterCard cards to use their Samsung Galaxy S6 devices for everyday purchase in shops.
MasterCard application
MasterCard ‘started partnership with wagamama company so that users of restaurants would be enabled more practical, faster and simpler payment method of meals thorugh application on their mobile phones. Qkr! application with MasterPassTM will enable users to pay their bills when they are ready for it.
Google smartphone
American internet company, Google presented a prototype of its future modular smartphone, ara - phone which can change components. It is completely personalized device which will be able to integrate different modules depending on a customer. Modular smartphone Google should undergo the real first test next summer.
Despite non- inspirational appearance, the main star was after all the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. Vistors had the chance to hear president and the head of the Federal commission for communications, AT&T, Avegant, AVG Technologies, Deutsche Telekom, e-Estonia, Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, MasterCard, Micromax Informatics, Mozilla Foundation, Nokia, Orange, Renault-Nissan Alliance, SAP, Telefonica, Telenor, Visa, VMWare, Vodafone, Wicab, Wikipedia, etc.
The next encounter in Barcelona with visitors, companies, media, was announced by MWC organizers for February 22 - 25, 2016.
