Italy's Cimolai starts production in Smederevo in April

Smederevo Mayor Jasna Avramovic has voiced her expectation that the Italian company Cimolai, a manufacturer of steel structures, will start production in the rented facility of Zelvoz in early April.

Italian company Cimolai, one of the world's leading manufacturers of steel structures for construction projects, signed a lease agreement in late 2014 for a production facility located on the grounds of the railway car factory Zelvoz.

- We expect the Italian firm Cimolai to start production in the rented orange facility of the railway car factory Zelvoz in early April and hire 450 workers, as agreed, 350 of whom should be taken from Zelvoz - Jasna Avramovic told TV Smederevo.

CimolaiSpa was established 1949 in Italy. It specializes in the construction of bridges and viaducts, industrial, civil and military infrastructure.

Among the significant projects implemented by this company is a stadium in Brasilia, drawbridge and hanger for aicraft assembly in France, and it is now working on the construction of new canal in Panama as well as on the flood protection project in Venice.

The following period will see an investment in the reconstruction of production facility, while further cooperation should be based on the privatization process and models prescribed by the Economy Ministry and the Privatization Agency of Serbia.

According to preliminary plans of the Italian company, investments in the next five years are expected to reach between 8 and 10 million euro provided the acquisition takes place in the privatization process.
