Brain tumor surgery with gamma knife in Serbia in August

Gama knife surgery with the most modern device for brain tumor treatment will start in Serbia in August. On Monday, the Ministry of health signed the contract with Elekta company which has a deadline of to build a space in six months where the device will be located, today’s Blic reports.

Gamma knife cost EUR 4,5 m and the price comprises assembling, all supplementary equipment, design and contracting on new space which will be built next to the Center for magnetic resonance in CCS.

- It is the method of treatment with gamma beams which are directed towards tumor without harming healthy tissue. During surgery, skull is not opened, haircut is not needed and a patient does not lose hair. There is no pain and patient lies on bed - prof dr. Danica Grujicic explains.
