Prime Ministers of Serbia and China, Aleksandar Vucic and Li Kećijang, as well as the mayor of Belgrade, Sinisa Mali, officially opened today the Pupin’s Bridge which connects Zemun and Borca at the Danube, together with access roads 10 km long.

The two prime ministers opened the bridge in the presence of many citizens and officials.

Works on the Zemun-Borca bridge started in late October 2011. New bridge is 1.507 m long, 29,1 m wide and 22,8 m tall. The main bridge diameter is 362 m.

The bridge has six traffic lanes and pedestrian-cycling paths on both sides of the bridge.

After 79 years, when the Pancevacki most (the Pancevo bridge) was opened, got its second bridge at the Danube.

Access roads will be 21,6 km long and a part from Zrenjaninski put to Pancevacki put will end in September 2015. The bridge will be a connection with road Corridors 10 and 11.

Opening of the Pupin’s Bridge from Zemun to Borca, shortens the way for almost 30 km.

Total value of the bridge with access roads is USD 260 m, 85% of which is credited by Chinese Exim bank, while the Republic of Serbia and the City of Belgrade provided the remaining 15%.

After the opening of the Pupin’s Bridge, Vucic said this event is more significant than anything else he and his Chinese colleague did in the previous two days since this event glorifies deeds, not pure words.

Quoting a Nobel Prize winner, Ivo Andric, the prime minister said that out of all the things a man can build, nothing is more valuable than bridges, they belong to everybody, they are equal to everybody, more long-lasting than other buildings and they do not serve to anything evil.

- Nothing can be more true - Vucic said who previously invited the attendees to welcome once again with warm applause the Prime Minister of the National Republic of China.
