Feast in line with Nikola Tesla's taste, 100-year old hydro power plants, begining of electrification... - How did Serbia's industrial heritage revive?

Can you guess what is on the menu called "Electricity"? It is a true feast: fresh shells with chips made of shrimps and a lemon foam, duck soup with cherry jelly, asparagus in Hollandaise sauce with a parmesan snow, etc.
Unusual menu "Electricity – Mr. Nikola Tesla" is available for
visitors of cultural and tourist route called "Via roads of Tesla through
Serbia", at the Belgrade hotel "Square Nine". These are dishes
from rich menu 100 years old whose original is kept at the Museum of Nikola
Tesla. The menu was made exclusively for
a famous scientist upon 150th regular meeting of the Commercial club
of Chicago in 1899.
The project of cultural route development "Via Tesla’s roads" started last spring
and it is one of the first steps for Serbia organized work on industrial
tourism development. Namely, although our country has a large number of industrial facility
heritage, they were not comprised into a unique tourist offer until recently.

The industrial heritage in Serbia has been interesting for passengers for a long.

the first time cement was used in hydro construction, knitting section in Bezdan,
old brewery… Still, specific tours of industrial heritage in Serbia have been
introduced recently in Serbia with the cultural routes , "Via roads of
Tesla and Stanojevic", Smiljana Novicic from TOS says for eKapija.
The interest of expert public and tourists for facilities of industrial heritage shows the data that E-FAITH suggested to UNESCO and EU that 2015 is declared "the year of European industrial heritage ", our collocutor from TOS explains.
The route "Via Tesla’s roads" comprises the Museum of Nikola Tesla, as
the central spot, Museum of science and technique of Belgrade from Nikola Tesla’s
point of view - the road Tesla Tesla took in 1892 when he visited Belgrade,
Negotin as a hometown of Djordje Stanojevic (koji who is to be thanked for the
first electrical lighting and construction of the first hydro power plants in
Serbia), as well as ten small old hydro power plants of "Electric Power Industry of Serbia",
which are true, small museum and they originated mainly thanks to big
friendship and cooperation between Tesla and Stanojevic. Six out of these hydro
power plants are in the region of south and east Serbia and four in west
Serbia.
The oldest power plant - "Under the city" at Uzice, was made only four years after Niagara, in 1900. Hydro power plant "Vucje" is 110 old, "Sveta Petka" 105, "Gamzigrad" 104, "Moravica" has 102 years of work.

Glob Metropoliten offers two tours - "Nikola Tesla and Belgrade" (touring
the roads of the great scientist through Serbian capital) and “Big tour of Nikola Tesla" (apart from
Belgrade, it comprises a visit to Sisatovac monastery at Sremska Kamenica). It is possible to organize private tours, the tourist
agency says for eKapija and they add the tourists’ interest is very good.
Tour of Belgrade ends with a break at the Square Nine hotel, with a cake from original Tesla’s menu, "Electricity", Glob Metropoliten agency says.
Novi Sad-based Panacomp agency has 4 tours dedicated to Nikola Tesla – apart from a one-day tour of Belgrade, they offer a multi-day sight touring in west Serbia, sights in east Serbia, as well as eight-days tour which comprises all of this..
Panacomp says for our portal they have already had a few guests who enjoyed their tours "Via Tesla’s roads" and that the impressions were great.
Magelan agency also from Novi Sad, offers a one-day trip December 13, and interested tourists can apply. They leave in front of the Museum of Nikola Tesla and at the end of the trip there is an option of lunch at the Square Nine hotel, in line with the Electricity menu, Magelan reps say.
Industrial heritage keepers
Numerous institutions in Serbia are committed to industrial heritage: Agricultural
museum in Kulpin at Backi Petrovac, Museum "Carlsberg Srbija" (former
Museum of beer Celarevo) at Backa Palanka, museums of Nikola Tesla, science and
technique, air traffic, cars and the Railway museum in Belgrade. There is also
the Museum of mining and metallurgy in Bor, Museum of coal business in Senjski
rudnik at Despotovac, "Stara livnica" in Kragujevac, as well as the
City-museum of railway in Lapovo. It will be a good thing if there are more
offers in industrial tourism having in mind various options.

The fact that Tesla’s menu revived at the Square Nine hotel at Studentski trg, is
not accidental at all. Many do not know
that upon his stay in Belgrade, in 1892, Tesla stayed at this square, at former
luxurious hotel Imperial (today’s Plato). At the back of Tesla’s menu, there is
an interesting story about the friendship of Nikola Tesla and Dordje
Stanojevic, Tesla’s arrival to Belgrade, electrification and industrialization
of Serbia, etc.
