Belgrade-based Seven Bridges Genomics gets USD 5, 8 m for cancer research platform development
Seven Bridges Genomics (SBG) is Serbian-American Company headquartered in Belgrade and Boston, set up in 2009 with an objective to develop cloud platform for genetic analysis and researches. It was the first platform of this type in the world and it would facilitate activities and make them cheaper for medical users, Stratit portal announced.
Big news which SBG Startit gladly exclusively announces is that SBG got the contract worth USD 5, 8 m as a part of the initiative of the National Institute for cancer of the USA for development of “Cancer Genomics Cloud Pilot" initiative.
Since 2012, the technological company significantly developed with the support of angel investments from USA and the headcount number grew from 20 to 90 (60 employees in Belgrade).
As SBG states, the project objective is to speed up development of biomedicine and democratization of data collected during genetic cancer researches. This is yet but the first step in development of Cancer Genomics Cloud and apart from SBG, a few institutions (such as ISB and Broad Institute) will participate in it but it is important to mention that SBG is the only company which won the contract for Cancer Cloud Pilot as well as that the Amazon Web Services is their partner in project development, Startit reports.
