The plan was commissioned by the Serbian Railways Infrastructure, designed by the PE “Zavod za urbanizam Vojvodine”, whereas the technical documentation was prepared by the Belgrade-based company Egis.
It is reminded that the length of the two-track electrified Belgrade-Sid-Croatian border railway is 120 km and that it is the first electrified railway on the network, which opened to traffic in 1970, and the it is of utmost importance for local and international traffic in Serbia.
It is also said that, in the period between 2008 and 2010, the reconstruction and modernization of the Batajnica-Stara Pazova-Golubinci was done, and that the current train speeds range between 30 and 100 (120) km/h, which is caused by the poor condition of the upper and lower structures of the railway tracks. On the other hand, on the Stara Pazova-Croatian border section, the speed is 80 to 100 km/h.
Therefore, it is said, a modernization and a reconstruction are needed, and the plan is for a modern two-track railway for mixed (passenger and cargo) traffic and speeds of up to 160 km/h to be formed along the entire length of the Belgrade-Sid-Croatian border route.
All the existing structures (bridges, culverts) also need to be built and/or reconstructed, and modern signaling and telecommunications equipment needs to be installed. The reconstruction and adaptation of the stations, stations facilities and tracks for the projected speed also needs to be done.
The conception of the technical solution entails a total of 8 stations and 4 stops, according to the plan.
