The joint session of the Government of Serbia and the Provincial Government was held on October 22, 2016, after 13 years, at the Banovina building in Novi Sad. Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stated that the Government of Serbia would set aside RSD 1.9 billion for the reconstruction of a hundred schools, kindergartens and other facilities in Vojvodina, and that the realization of the projects was to start immediately.
Following the joint session, the prime minister said that more funds would be invested in Vojvodina, as the unemployment rate there was higher than in Serbia’s south.
– We had quite a serious talk about solving the problems faced by the citizens of Vojvodina today. We have decided to transfer the first amount of money to Novi Sad in order for it to prepare for the project of the European Capital of Culture, followed by EUR 4 million for the RTV building, though I believe that this is too much. However, we have accepted the suggestion that it is important to show that we are capable of reconstructing what was destroyed during the NATO aggression – Vucic said.
According to him, the road infrastructure in Vojvodina will be rebuilt using the budget money, including 37 km of Fruska Gora Corridor, but also healthcare and cultural institutions, such as the Subotica Theater.
Vucic added that the law on financing Vojvodina would be adopted, but that there were no problems in financing the province at the moment.
The president of the Vojvodina Government, Igor Mirovic, said that Vojvodina had received great support by the Government of Serbia for the realization of important projects and that the provincial budget would receive concrete support as well in the next year.
– We have received strong support for the realization of projects of national importance – the continuation of the realization of the Subotica Theater and the reconstruction of the RTV building – Mirovic said.
– We hope to justify the trust given to us – Mirovic said and explained that there had been 20 items in the agenda.
Members of the governments also talked about finding a solution for the educational facilities, schools and universities most in need of help.
