Being unsatisfied with the current job and wishing to find another one has become a chronic condition in Serbia. According to the data by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, the main reasons for dissatisfaction cited by a half of those surveyed are inadequate working conditions and low salaries.
A higher salary through a diploma
On the other hand, global and local research shows that higher education benefits are larger than ever and are above all reflected in higher earnings. The faculty diploma has its value in the market and remarks about knowledge and faculty education being devalued should be taken with a grain of salt.
In 34 OECD countries, in the period from 2000 till 2012, the gap between the income of those with secondary education and those with higher education grew twice as as much as the gap between those with secondary education and those with primary education. This world trend is slowly seeping over into Serbia. Current research point to it, as the highest average salary in 2016 belonged to the category of those with faculty degrees.
Education – cure for dissatisfaction
There's a lot, then, that we can do ourselves if we're dissatisfied with our jobs and salaries. It's never too late to learn and acquire knowledge, and lack of time is a weak argument in the era of modern technologies.
